According to church history, The Free-Will Baptist Church was organized on February 21, 1847 on the Limington side of the river in the "Old Red Store", a 3-story building owned by Tobias Lord. The church occupied the 2nd floor. A pew auction was held on June 2, 1847, and 32 pews were sold.

On July 7, 1849, a building committee met at Tobias Lord's store (at this time Lord's store was on the lot later occupied by Marean's store at 37 Main Street) to report that they had agreed to purchase, for $100, the lot next door known as the Tobias Lord lumber yard. The lot extended from the road (4 rods on the road) to the brow of the hill.

On May 6, 1850, the Meeting House at Standish Corner was chosen as the model (with some enlagements & alterations) for the new church. Construction had begun by December 16, 1850 and the Meeting House was dedicated on July 31, 1851.

On November 11, 1853, for $100, Tobias Lord sold this property with the Meeting House now standing, to the owners & proprietors of the Meeting House at Steep Falls for the use of The Freewill Baptist Denomination of Christians.
